Organisations are often defined as groups of people that take action to achieve certain goals and objectives. They usually transform inputs into outputs (goods and services) and try to use these outputs to achieve their objectives. Typical inputs are materials, information, tools, budgets and above all people. To transform the inputs into outputs the organisation needs technology, qualified personnel, management and support activities like administration, finance and maintenance. Where people meet on regular basis, they tend to develop a culture. An organisation culture is a set of more or less stable norms and values that prevail in the organisation.

Capacity building refers to activities that aim to improve the performance of an organisation. They aim to reduce crucial weaknesses and capitalise strengths of the organisation. This website concentrates on four issues:
